From Thomas Kirk to Ferdinand von Mueller   8 June 1887

June 8 [188]71

Sir,

May I again indent upon your good nature to procure for the State Forests Depart2 the under mentioned seeds. —

160 lbs Acacia decurrens (in 4 no. 25 lbs & 2 — 30 lbs bags)

25 lbs

Eucalyptus Gunnii

50 lbs

" marginata

25 lbs

" rostrata

The first parcel of E. marginata about 12 lbs sent by J. G. Luehmann last year was of extremely bad quality3 — it was mixed with sand and the seed itself so imperfect that the [actual] parcel yielded rather less than 800 plants so that the cost of labour was thrown away & what is more important a season has been lost. The second parcel has not been tried but we should make some return for the first.

Please have the seed shipped at earliest date and accept my thanks for your kind & ready aid

I have the honour to be

Your Obedient

T. Kirk

Chief Conservator of State Forests.

Sir Ferdinand Von Mueller K.C.M.G.
