[Mr. J. Whitehead, of Boyeo,1 discovered in 1888 a valuable native grass, of which he sent a sample to Baron von Mueller.2 The report received in reply was to the effect that the grass has no English name, as it does not occur in the old country. It is purely a native Australian grass, and one of the best. It [is]3 nutritive and palatable to pasture animals, and is a good drought resister. It grows on light sandy soil with a clayey bottom, and is spreading in the neighborhood of Boyeo.4 Its generic name is Eragrostis Brownii.]
