The Acacia, allied to A. polybatrya,1 dear Dr Woolls, was first brought under my notice by Mr F. M. Bailey and so I named it at once after him informing him to that effect. I placed it under that name before the Royal Society here some weeks ago with a description exhibiting with notes a few other new plants, so that the whole will appear still in the volume of our R. S. here for 1887.2 Soon after I had the specimens from you,3 I received also independently others from Wagga Wagga collected by Mr Garland there.4 Mr Bailey's came probably from that part of New England5 nearest Queensland; but he is not sure about the locality or the origin of the tree, cultivated at Brisbane. The specimens from all localities together have afforded sufficient material for well illustrating the A. Baileyana for the 11th Decade of the Acacias.6 I am quite willing to name some other new plants after Mr Dawson7 and his nephews.
Regardfully your
Ferd Von Mueller
I could not well recede from the original naming. Kindly be vigilant for Potamogetons and other floating or submerged plants. — Should clergymen and others from the more central regions of Australia visit you, please ask them particularly to send specimens in fl or fr8 of Acacias also of Aquatics. Can you have a boat excursion after water plants?
