From Joseph Maiden    17 January 1888

17th Jan: [188]81

Dear Baron Mueller,

In reply to your letter of the 13th January2 I have the following records in my books in regard to payments to Mr Bauerlen made by you through me: —

P.O. O. despatched Bauerlen

Receipt arrived

Sept: 8

Oct: 5

" 28

" 19

Nov: 8

Dec: 3

The last receipt cannot at present be traced, as Mr Bauerlen generally wrote "I have sent a receipt to the Baron direct." It is therefore quite possible I have mislaid or destroyed the informal acknowledgement[s] to me, but I posess all his letters in which he says he is enclosing receipts. As soon as Mr Bauerlen returns I will ask him to write to you giving you those receipts of which you stand in need.

Yours truly,

J. H. Maiden.
