From Ferdinand von Mueller to Otto Tepper   3 Feb 1888

3/2/88.

The Eucalypt with the reddish filaments that you sent,1 esteemed Mr Tepper, is the large-flowered form of E. gracilis. The species is better described in the Fragmenta and in the Eucalyptographia than in the Flora australiensis.2 If anyone you know lives near the place, he could probably collect seeds of it, as it would be a nice variety for culture in parks.

The Scleranthus is really too meagre for critical investigation; it may be one of the common European species, then introduced there.

Your paper has already gone off by registered post with an enclosed letter from me to the Secretary of the Royal Society of Tasmania.3

Friendliest greetings

Ferd. von Mueller.
