From Ferdinand von Mueller to Henry Deane   28 Mar 1888

28/3/88

The Passionflower, dear Mr Deane, of which you sent some branchlets, is a strayplant from gardens there. It is the P. stipulata1 of Aublet (P. glauca of Aiton) from Central America. A few other spec. of this genus have become fugitives from horticulture in Australia, and got quite naturalized.

If you will send specimens of the two plants, which need comparison with the genuine Sherardia arvensis, I will enter on a critical examination of them.

I wonder, whether the projected excursion to Mt Seaview has come off during the holidays of this Easter-time.2

Regardfully your

Ferd von Mueller

Passiflora glauca

Passiflora stipulata

Sherardia arvensis

Passiflora stipulata.

M had been urging an expedition to Mt Seaview, in northern NSW, for some time; his most recent allusion to it was M to H. Deane, 18 March 1888.
