Wenn Sie während der nächsten Monate nicht viel von mir schriftlich oder durch Sendungen sehen werden, edler Freund, so müssen Sie bedenken, dass hier am 1 Aug die Welt-Ausstellung zur Feier des 100 jährigen Bestehens australischer Colonisation beginnen wird. Als Commissar, Juror u professioneller Chef eines Departements giebt es so vielerlei zu thun bei einem solchen grossen und lang-dauerden Ereignis, dass Viel Anderes in Verschiebung zurück kommen muss. Indes werde ich Ihrer stets doch eingedenk bleiben!
1889 soll der Census in einer erneuten Ausgabe erscheinen. Könnten Sie von Ihrer werthvollen Zeit dann u wann eine Stunde widmen für eine Durchmusterung der Original Ausgabe? Vielleicht wird Ihr Maximowicz dasselbe gütig thun, u einige Winke auch geben, wie Sie, besonders nach Erfahrungen an Asiatischen Pflanzen[.] Selbstverständlich können wir kein wirklich natürliches System haben, solange als wir die Monochlamydeen oder Apetaleae als einen chaotischen Complex gesondert halten. Dass ich Thymeleae zu Rosaceen u Viniferae zu Araliaceen stelle, wird Ihnen aus früheres Mittheiling bekannt sein
Die 7te erweiterte Ausgabe der "Select plants" geht durch die Presse, theils zum Gebrauch der Exhib Jurors, theils in Verbindung mit den neuen Culturen unter dem ausgedehnten Irrigations System, welches die Regierung hier für rurale Forderung eingerichtet hat

If you do not hear much from me during the coming months by way of letters or other communications, noble friend, you will have to remember, that the International Exhibition in celebration of the Centenary of the beginnings of Australian colonisation is to commence on 1 August. As Commissioner, juror and professional head of a Department there is so much to do during such an important and long drawn-out event, and much other work has to be deferred. I will, however, continue to think of you!
A new edition of the Census1 is to be published in 1889. Could you dedicate an hour here and there out of your valuable time to glance through the original edition?2 Perhaps your Maximowicz would be so kind to do likewise and, like you, give a few indications especially from his experience of asiatic plants. It goes without saying, that we cannot have a truly natural system, as long as we keep the Monochlamideae or Apetalae separate as one chaotic complex.3 You will know from earlier communications, that I place Thymeleae with Rosaceae and Viniferae with Araliaceae.
The 7th enlarged edition of the "Select plants"4 is going through the press, partly for use by the Exhibition jurors, partly in connection with the new cultivations under the extended irrigation system, which the Government has developed here for rural advancement.
