From Frederick Bailey1    August 1888

I shall be glad of even fragment[ed] specimens of all or any of the plants asterisked — I left also with your […]2 man at the Herbarium a marked Index.3

F.M.B.

MS is a note on a copy of Bailey (1883a), which was advertised as about to be published in Telegraph (Brisbane), 25 July 1883, p. 1. MS is dated to August 1888 since Bailey is known to have been in Mebourne then as one of the Queensland Commissioners for the Melbourne International Exhibition (Queenslander, 18 August 1888, p. 285). He subsequently visited Adelaide (Adelaide Observer, 15 September 1888, p. 12) and it is possible that he may have stayed in Melbourne again in late September, on his way back to Brisbane where he arrived at the beginning of October.
illegible — MS damaged.
Another copy of the Index is annotated: 'I shall be glad of some fragments of all marked species'.
