Probably includes Holtze's no. 862, described as Eulophia holtzei in B89.07.03, p. 55. An orchid with this record number is referred to in M to M. Holtze, 24 March 1889 (in this edition as 89-03-24a), and M to M. Holtze, 12 June 1889.

M was one of the Commissioners of the Centennial International Exhibition, Melbourne, 1888-9). In addition, the catalogue (Centennial International Exhibition, Melbourne, 1888-9 (1888)) lists an exhibit by him of 'Botanical specimens &c' (vol. 1, p. 58). The exhibition opened on 1 August 1888.

Undated fragment. The translation is included within the text in square brackets.

Many of the record numbers in this list are not in the MEL collection. All but one of the specimens that are in the collection are dated to October 1888, and the other is dated 1888 without further precision. M to M. Holtze 20 October 1888 (in this edition as 88-10-20a) asked for more information on orchids (see below) and reported that he had 'freed a few hours immediately to name your plants at least provisionally'. This list may not have accompanied the letter of 20 October, but it was evidently M's intention to prepare it close to that date. It is accordingly dated to October 1888.
