Key 1 (Dichotomie) gerade fertig.
Immer Ihr
Ferd. von Mueller

Today, esteemed Professor, a packet of dried plants goes off to you. There is also something with it for the museum department that is under the care of your highly renowned colleague Government Counsellor Cohn. The shipment is through the agency of Mr Tate here and the whole lot should arrive for you free of charge.
I hope that you will admit Candollea among the Monopetaleae (or Sympetaleae). It would surely be the finest botanical monument for DC, father, son and grandson. There can be no question of Candollea continuing to remain in the Dilleniaceae.1
As a German I am proud of my election as president of the Austral. Association for the Advancement of Science for 1889. 2 Many decades will probably flow into the sea of the past before this highest scientific honour in Australia is awarded again to a fellowcountryman of ours.
Key 1 (Dichotomy) just finished.3 It will reach you through the Public Library of Melbourne.
Always your

M had long held that Candollea was untenable; see M to G. Bentham, 24 December 1861, and M to W. Thiselton-Dyer, 10 September 1881. He restored it on priority grounds as synonym of Stylidium in B73.04.02, pp. 40-1.
M presided over the second Congress of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science, held in Melbourne on 7-14 January 1890.
