Robt. Watson Esqr.,
Engineer in Chief of the Victorian Railway-Department
Sir.
The three samples of wood, just sent to me for examination,1 are all from Eucalyptus viminalis, the Manna Gumtree. The timber of this species is one of the least durable of all; hence it could not be recommended for structural purposes of permanency.2
Very obediently your
Ferd. von Mueller,
Gov. Botanist.
