There will be no difficulty, dear Mr Gill, to realize your wish, that a new plant should be named after you, because among minute weeds, which come up in early spring many absolute novelties must yet occur there. But all your plants for such purposes, should be collected as well in fruit as in flower.1
The Decades of the Acacias2 and what you want of the Decades of the Eucalypts3 can be obtained from the Gov Printing Office here by purchase; or you might instruct a South-Australian Bookseller, to order these publications for you from the Melbourne Gov. Printing Office. I purchase there for private gifts over £50 -. - annually myself on my own expenses
With best compliments your
Ferd. von Mueller

Cynanchum floribundum

No species named by M for Gill has been found (IPNI, accessed 10 February 2021).
B87.13.08, B88.13.10.
It is not known which decades Gill required; the final decade was B84.11.02.
None of the specimens named are now at MEL and so the date of the letter cannot be inferred from collection dates. Specimens numbered 7-30 are listed in M to W. Gill, 14 December 1888, while specimens 35-38 are listed in M to W. Gill, 20 August 1889. M's lists broadly follow the sequence of Gill's collection numbers, and the Item is dated to 1889 on the presumption that it preceded the August 1889 list; it is not possible, however, to infer the likely month.
