27/1/89
If you allow me, dear Prof Balfour, I will send you from time to time fresh seeds, — when obtainable —, of any Australian Everlastings, with a view to you kindly causing them to be raised, and in spring some seedlings to be planted on the grave of the honorable Dr Wilkie, who died in Paris 3 years ago during the winter cold from acute pulmonary inflammation while he was with his family on a visit to Europe after 40 years active practice here. — He was buried in Edinburgh,1 where his father about the middle of the Century was a renowned presbyterian preacher.2 I enjoyed for more than 30 years the intimate friendship of this worthy man here, and it would be a sad pleasure to me, if during the summer-warmth a few Australian flowers could ornament his grave.
Regardfully yours always
Ferd. von Mueller.
