haben dem Baron von Müller die von dem hochseligen Grossherzoge Friederich Franz gestiftete Medaille mit der Inschrift: "den Wissenschaften und Kunsten" in Gold und mit dem Bande verliehen und ertheilen demselben über den rechtmässigen Besitz dieser Auszeichnung dies gegenwärtige Beglaubigungsschreiben mit Unserer eigenen Namensunterschrift und beigedrucktem Grossherzoglichen Insiegel.

have awarded Baron von Mueller the gold medal with the inscription 'to the sciences and arts' and with the ribbon founded by the late Grand Duke Friederich Franz3 and give him this present letter of testimonial about the lawful possession of this decoration with our own signature and affixed grand-ducal seal.

Beneath the initials is a further passage, marked 'Inserendum pp.' [To be inserted: by procuration], as follows: 'Sr K.H der Grossherzog haben dem Baron von Müller in Melbourne die Medaille mit der Inschrift "den Wissenschaften und Kunsten" in Gold und mit dem Bande zu verleihen geruhet' [His Royal Highness the Grand Duke has deigned to award Baron von Mueller in Melbourne the gold medal with the inscription "to the sciences and arts" with the ribbon].
