From Ferdinand von Mueller to Jacob Agardh   30 May 1889

30/5/89

During the medical congress in Melbourne in January 1889, at which I was president of the therapeutic section, esteemed Professor, I asked the physician delegated to us by the Government of Western Australia, Dr Elliott,1 to collect or have algae collected now and then at Champion Bay near his place of residence. Now he sends some that a lady unnamed by him dried; the whole lot is just going off to you by post. Perhaps there is something among them that is surely valuable on account of the locality, since in 1854 Harvey could not visit this region which was still unoccupied at that time.2 — In 1877 during my short stay at Champion Bay there was almost nothing at all washed up. I would like something back from this station, since it is almost subtropical.

Honouring you your

Ferd. von Mueller.

Charles Elliott.
