From Ferdinand von Mueller to Jacob Agardh   8 Aug 1889

8/8/89.

By this post, esteemed Professor, I am sending you algae from the mouth of the Johnston River1 in tropical east Australia. The locality is new for algal study. The collector there is one paid by my department, so it is not necessary to dedicate several species to him, although one species, if new, might receive his name. The man will probably not remain in my employment because he displays little energy.2

Most friendly greeting

Ferd. von Mueller.

Johnston Creek, Qld.

i.e. Stephen Johnson (fl. 1875-98), whose specimens from this locality are at MEL. He was still employed by M in 1891; see M to J. Agardh, 7 July 1891.
