To William Thiselton-Dyer   21 November 1889

21/11/891

Am much beholden to you, dear Mr Dyer, for the speedy information afforded, and beg of you, to thank Mr Baker and Mr Clarke, for the trouble taken by them about the Papuan ferns & Cyperaceae.2 I send you the four sheets, which are printed off, concerning Sir W MacGregor's plants; the fifth will conclude the essay, but it could not be got ready for this mail.3

My general and long experience in working has always been, that large genera are the best with subgenera for practical purposes, and that applies to Cyperoideae particularly. I hurried off the Ferns & the Schoenus, to the specialists, as I have all through 1889 been so very busy with various heavy extra-duties.

Always regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller
