Kiel, 21 Januar 1890.

Hochgeehrter Herr College!

Reinke.

Administration of the Botanical Institute in Kiel

Kiel, 21 January 1890

Highly esteemed Colleague!

Major Reinbold, who is much occupied with the algae collection of our herbarium, had the kindness to ask you for some consignments of the latter, and you have not neglected to fulfil this request in the most kindly manner. I thank you most graciously in the name of the botanical institute for this!

At the same time I permit myself to have sent off today a collection of algae of the western Baltic mostly collected by me, which might have at any rate a phytogeographical, partly even systematic interest for your museum. Today I permit myself the question whether I can also perhaps oblige you with a small collection of algae from the Arctic Ocean? In this case it is available and I just ask to dispose of it.

I am striving to have represented at least all genera of marine algae in the local herbarium; precisely on account of Kiel's situation on the sea, the study of algae needs particular cultivation here, and under my direction temporarily just the collection of algae shall be increased so as to concentrate all resources on it. Unfortunately we still lack numerous Australian genera and so my request to you today is whether you cannot be helpful again in filling these gaps? The list of desiderata below has been compiled from the index of genera of Schmitz in the latest part of Flora,5 and I would be very obliged to you, if you were able to send me some from your rich store. Naturally I would always endeavour as far as possible to show my appreciation for this.

Very respectfully and with collegial greetings

Your most devoted

Reinke
