From Ferdinand von Mueller to Henry Deane   18 Mar 1890

18/3/90

Towards the end of 1889, dear Mr Deane, I was obliged, to lay much work aside, partly with a view to write extra of daily routine-engagements the descriptions of Sir W. Macgregor's highland-plants of New Guinea,1 partly to work for the Melb meeting of the Austral Association.2 Thus, among other sendings also your Angophora was laid aside, and comes now only before me again in the endeavour, to clear off arrear-work. If you were not so positive about declaring it different from A. intermedia, I should have taken it as a var. of that species. Could it be a hybrid between A. intermedia & A subvelutina? We have to be very guarded in establishing new species in cases like these.

With regardful remembrance your

Ferd von Mueller

Kindly try, to find, if even in leaves only, Aldrovanda vesiculosa among Utricularia and other submerged plants.
