At last I have demonstrated the long expected occurrence of Cyrtandra in Australia. Unfortunately there was only one (mutilated) fruit, and were only two imperfect flowers sacrificed in analysis;1 so I can only supply leaves on a branchlet to you. We ought to find also Aeschynanthus2 yet
Aeschynanthus
Cyrtandra
sacrificed in analysis marginal note with intended position indicated by an asterisk.
The species was described, with M credited as author, in Bailey (1890), pp. 51-2.
APNI (accessed 11 June 2021) does not list any species of this for Australia.
The letter is attached to a sheet with the specimen. M's label also attached is 'Cyrtandra Baileyi | FvM | Mt Bellindin Ker | 1888 W. Sayer' [i.e. Mt Bellenden Ker]. Both the letter and the label are dated stamped '19 May 90'. Letter dated to April 1890 as the latest it could have been sent, to reach Kew by mid-May. The MS may have been included with M to W. Thiselton-Dyer, 6 April 1890 (in this edition as 90-04-06a) which is also date stamped 19 May 1890.
