From Ferdinand von Mueller to Alphonse de Candolle   4 Apr 1890

4/4/90.

Allow me, honored and venerable friend, to send you a specimen of a Piper, new for Australia, with a view of this species being kindly examined by your illustrious son.1 It would be desirable, to fix its exact position in the system.

It was very pleasing to me, that you viewed with so much favor the second Census of Australian plants.2 About 20 good species have been added since; but some further reductions will have to take place, for instance in the genus Buechnera.3 The third Census can not likely appear before the end of the century and then likely not much will remain to be added.4

Trusting that you enjoy life in God's beautiful world, the vegetation of which you and your great parent5 have done so much to reveal scientifically and hoping, that you will long yet be spared us, I remain regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller.
