Heute habe ich Ihnen in einer Kiste (Gov. Bot. Melbourne) unserenen gesammelten Pflanzen gesandt No M 986-1100. Sie werden darin ein Kistchen mit verschiedenen Blüthen der No M in Spiritus finden, darunter 3 Arten Nymphacea, eine davon kommt von Samen welche ich von Cambridge Gulf W.A. erhielt. Diese Sendung werden Sie besonders reich an Asclepiadeae, Utriculariae & Erd Orchideen finden. Von 2 Pogonias konnten wir die Blüthen nicht finden. Von der schönen weissblühenden Verbenacea erhalten Sie diesmal Blüthen & Frucht Exemplare. Ist die gesandte Hoya H. carnosa? oder eine neue? Blüthen im Spirit's Wenn ich heute "wir" sage, so hat dass einen guten Grund, nämlich mein ältester Sohn, Nicholas, welcher in der Office des Gov. Resident angestellt ist, hat mir dieses mal sehr beim Sammeln & Präpariren geholfen, & hoffe ich, dass Sie nun mit solcher neuer & enthusiastischer Kraft viel mehr von mir erhalten werden, wie zuvor. Sollten Sie etwas Neues zwischen den Pflanzen finden, so möchte ich bitten, seinen Namen mit den meinigen als Finder anzugeben, denn solch eine Anerkennung wird ja seinen Eifer erhöhen, & ich muss sagen, dass seine Augen & Beine jünger sind, wie die meinigen, & hat er auch mehr Zeit.
Ich sende die früher versprochenen Timberspecimen von Acacia auriculiformis. Samen derselben wird bald reif sein.
Ich habe die Kiste mit einigen Samen & mit Arachis loose aufgefüllt. Die Photografien sind wegen Mangels an Papier, welches von Sydney erwartet wird, nicht fertig geworden, so muss ich deshalb um Entschuldigung bitten.

Highly esteemed Baron,
Today I have sent you in a packing case (Government Botanist, Melbourne) our collected plants Nos M 986-1100.2 In it you will find a small box with various flowers of the No. M in alcohol, among them 3 species of Nymphaea, one of them raised from seed I had received from Cambridge Gulf in Western Australia. You will find this consignment especially rich in Asclepiadeae, Utriculariae, and terrestrial orchids. We could not find the flowers of 2 Pogonia species.3 You are receiving this time flowering and fruiting specimens of the beautiful white-flowering Verbenacea. Is the Hoya sent H. carnosa? Or is it new? Flowers of it in alcohol.
When today I say 'we', there is good reason for it, because my oldest son Nicholas, who is employed in the office of the Government Resident, has helped me a lot this time with the collecting and the preparation. I hope that, with such new and enthusiastic help, you will now receive a lot more from me than previously. Should you find anything new among the plants, I would like to ask you to give his name together with mine as the discoverer, as such an acknowledgment would be sure to increase his zeal. I must say that his eyes and legs are younger than mine, and he has more time as well.
I am sending the timber specimens of Acacia auriculiformis promised previously.4 Seed of it will be ripe soon.
I have filled up the case loosely with some seed and peanuts. The photographs are not yet ready due to lack of paper, which is expected from Sydney; so I have to apologise for that.
