From Ferdinand von Mueller to Ralph Tate   26 Apr 1890

26/4/90

Have been much pressed latterly, dear Prof. Tate, to give an account of the plants, lately brought by Sir Will. Macgregor from the Delta of the Fly-River1 for his report;2 thus my tardiness in completing the revision of Mr Tietkens's plants.3 But as you are so conversant among the Central Austr. plants, you need really very little help from me, especially as I shall see a proofsheet of the treatise. I may have laid aside some of the plants as done, and they may have gone to the Museum, without being entered on the list. However as it is of little importance, that so imperfect a collection, of what occurs in the region, should be fully recorded, any omissions would not be of much account.

Allow me to say, that the real Potamogeton tenuicaulis could not possibly be united with P. natans nor with any species allied to that widely spred4 plant.

Acacia cochlearis I have now from many more places, than those mentioned in the Flora Austral.,5 but from nowhere beyond the coast-region. I feel sure, the central Austr plant is not the genuine species.

Your Senecio odoratus = Erechthites lacerata. In the Linnaea 1852 I alluded already to the resemblance of Senec. odoratus.6
