Längst hätte ich mich Ihnen schriftlich nahen sollen, verehrter Freund, um Ihnen für das rege Interesse zu danken, welches Sie noch immer nehmen an der Förderung der Algenkunde Australiens, wie dies besonders in neuester Zeit wieder aus Ihrer prächtigen Bearbeitung von Sargassum hervorgeht.

Es ist auch recht erfreulich, dass die neuen Funde bei Champion-Bay sich so wichtig erwiesen. Ich habe Aussicht mehr Material aus der Champion-Bay zu bekommen durch etwas Geld-Aufwand und die gütige Hülfe eines mir befreundeten dortigen Arztes.

Die von Ihnen zurück kommenden Exemplare werden hier ein immer werthvoller Beitrag für Studien in der von mir gestifteten Anstalt bleiben.

I ought to have written to you long ago, honoured Friend, to thank you for the avid interest that you still take in the advancement of the study of the algae of Australia, as this particularly emerges again recently from your splendid treatment of Sargassum.1

It is also very pleasing to me that the new finds near Champion Bay prove so important.2I have prospects to get more material from Champion Bay through some expenditure of money and the kind help of a physician there friendly to me.3

The specimens coming back from you will always remain a valuable contribution for studies here in the institution founded by me.
