Erlauben Sie mir, lieber Herr Holtze, Ihre Aufmerksamkeit darauf zu lenken, dass die Limnanthemum Arten dort noch weiterer Beobachtung bedürfen. So hat Prof Tate mir aus Ihrer Nähe ein Bruchstück einer Art geschickt, welche entweder neu ist, oder doch noch nicht für Australien verzeichnet ist. Die Blätter sind viel kleiner als die des L. Indicum, die Blumen sind aber auch weiss u gefranzt oder gewimpert. Ich habe nur eine Blume von ihm u keine Frucht, so lässt sich nichts damit machen. Dann giebt es in Indien u China häufig eine Art, auch schwimmend, welche ebenfalls weisse Blumen hat, aber ohne Franzen, doch mit einer verticalen Membrane längs jedem Lappen der Corolla; die Blätter von dieser sind auch klein; es ist L. cristatum von Grisebach. Wahrscheinlich liesse sich diese Pflanze dort auch finden.

Es ist nicht nöthig, dass die Blumen von Limnanthemum-Arten in Alcohol kommen, denn wenn solche frisch gesammelt u, offen zwischen Löschpapier gepresst werden, so kann man die feinen innern Theile alle sehr gut erkennen.

Permit me, dear Mr Holtze, to draw your attention to the fact, that the Limnanthemum species there are still in need of further observation.¹ Thus Professor Tate sent me a fragment of a species from near you, which is either new, or has not yet been recorded as occurring in Australia. The leaves are much smaller than in L. indicum, but the flowers are also white, and are fringed or ciliate. I have got only one flower from him and no fruit, so nothing can be done with it. There is a species in India and China, it is frequent, is also found floating, also has white flowers, but without a fringe, however with a vertical membrane along each corolla lobe; the leaves of this are also small; it is L. cristatum of Grisebach. You could probably find this plant there, too.

It is not necessary to place the flowers of Limnanthemum species in alcohol, because, if they are freshly collected and pressed open between sheets of blotting paper, the fine inner parts can all be very clearly distinguished.
