I have the honor to solicit permission from the hon. the Chief Secretary, that I may continue the engagement of an office-Youth1 from Oct 1. til Dec. 31. 1890 during four days each week at 4/ each day, as by such arrangement much time is saved to the Officers of the bot. establishment for carrying on their special work.2

I have the honor to be,

Sir, your obedient servant

Ferd. von Mueller.

i.e. George French. See M to T. Wilson, 1 July 1890, and notes thereto.

On 4 September 1890, Wilson recommended M's request to the Chief Secretary, A. Deakin, who approved it the same day. H. Moors, for Wilson, forwarded the news to M who replied the next day 'with best thanks'. Wilson then forwarded the file to the Commissioners of Audit for their information.
