From Ferdinand von Mueller to Ralph Tate   9 Sep 1890

9/9/90.

Herewith, dear Prof Tate, I beg to send you a Tasmanian specimen of Schoenus sphaerocephalus, as you may not have Sir J Hooker's "Flora Tasmaniae,1 in which this singular rush is figured. I do not doubt, that your identification of the Mount Burr2 plant is correct; but as it is always good, to "make sure doubly sure" (a maxime in all my scientific doings), you will doubtless be glad, to see the plant from one [of]3 the original localities recorded. The nearest place to yours is the Gellibrand-River4 a good distance off. I fancy, that where this Schoenus occurs, other plants of Tasm. type may grow. We know already thus Bauera from a few isolated places of S.A, also Sprengelia incarnata &c.

Regardfully your
