From Ferdinand von Mueller to Walter Gill   10 Sep 1890

10/9/90

Your plant 1031 is very interesting, dear Mr Gill, as it has not been found in Victoria before, and may now be regarded almost or perhaps quite a Victorian plant also. It is the male of Didymotheca thesioides, J. Hooker. Kindly say, whether you found it near Mosquito-Creek, which Watercourse rises in Victorian territory. Perhaps you would also let me know, how many miles from the boundary you found it, and whether it is very local.

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller.

The other plant is Styphelia virgata, Labillardière,2 a species of frequency.

Didymotheca thesioides

Styphelia virgata

Filed as Gyrostemon thesioides, MEL 0589865, dated '1890'.

The only specimen of this species collected by Gill at MEL is undated but has collecting number 102 (MEL 2096501).
