Before I forget it, I would like to inform you, dear Mr Tepper, that your plant from south-west Australia, no. 38 = Helichrysum subulifolium F.v.M. with white ray florets.
Best greetings
Ferd. von Mueller.
I have spent several hours on the investigation of the Didymotheca from Roebuck Bay1 and compared it with the considerable number of Didymotheca specimens here. I regard the plant as a variety (tepperi) of D. thesioides. The few fruit specimens that your son sent are all provided with bipartite fruits. The calyx of the ♂ flowers is admittedly more like that in D. pleiococca, but I also find such in typical specimens from Tasmania. Could your son send more specimens of both sexes, particularly also with ripe seeds? Then this plant could perhaps be raised to a species D. tepperi. My plant from Sturts Creek2 also belongs to it, as far as the ♂ tells us. The ♀ was lost with many other plants from Sturts Creek and the upper Victoria River on the voyage from Timor to Sydney.3
This case instructs us that my combining of Cyclotheca with Didymotheca in one genus is absolutely correct. Gyrostemon is very well distinguished from both.4

Didymotheca pleiococca
Didymotheca tepperi
Didymotheca thesioides
