From Ferdinand von Mueller to Ralph Tate   21 Sep 1890

21/9/90.

As I just think of it, dear Professor Tate, I like to mention, that my late friend J. Ball, was wrong in restoring the genus Caldasia for Umbelliferae.1 He overlooked, that Caldasia of Mutis2 was published in 1810, whereas Helosis of Richard was only established in 1822.3 The oldest Caldasia was by Willdenow in 1807,4 but it is identical with Bonplandia of Cavanilles, 1799.5 The latest Caldasia was by Lagasca6 1821, and became superseded by Endlichers Oreomyrrhis.

Regardfully your

Ferd. von Mueller
