Memorandum to Baron von Mueller K.C.M.G., F.R.S.

Dear Baron Mueller,

I send you buds, flowers, and early (immature) fruit of a Eucalypt which has puzzled me, and which I think may be a new species. I got it from near the Loftus Station, just inside the National Park, about 20 miles South of Sydney. I have had the tree under observation for about 9 months, but at first I could only get flower-buds & yesterday I made a special trip, but have not yet got mature fruits & seeds. I am going in a month or two for these. The bark resembles that of E. eximia in texture & general appearance, except that it is whitish & not yellow. There are only a very few trees, to my knowledge; they are up to a foot or 18 inches in diameter & 30 or 40 ft in height. Kindly let me know your decision on the matter.

Yours truly,

J. H. Maiden.
