Giill was elected to the Linnean Society of London on 4 December 1890. See his nomination certificate, on which M was one of the signatories, September 1890 (in this edition as 90-09-00). Gill's election was reported in South Australian register, 19 January 1891, p. 5, and in newspapers in other colonies later.
AVH data (accessed 19 February 2022) show that specimen 201 was collected in September 1890, the rest in January 1891 with the latest, numbers 203-205, on 27 January. February is thus the earliest that the list could have been prepared, and it is dated accordingly.
