From Ferdinand von Mueller to Henry Ridley   21 Mar 1891

21/3/91

I am not certain, dear Mr Ridley, whether I thanked you already for the highly valuable sending of dried plants, lately received, or whether I stopped short at the intention. My tour to N.Z. brought my correspondence in arrear, and I am overwhelmed with extrawork for the new geographic expedition to Central Australia, which is just at the eve of departure on expense of Sir Thomas Elder,1 the plan for it originating from my presidential adress, delivered at the Melbourne meeting of the Australian2 Assoc for Adv. of Sc.3

Mr Lea sent me just on your and his behalf the important volume on your expedition to Noronha.4 I have sent the Rev. Gentleman some small volumes of mine in return. It was on your and his part a mark of great attention.

Regardfully your

Ferd.von Mueller.

I need not say, that I shall be particularly glad to remain in extensive interchange with you

I find, after getting good specimens with pollinia, that my doubtful Eulophia Holtzei is a Pachystoma (Apaturia) Holtzei.5

Regardfully your

Ferd von Mueller.
