Your paper on the locusts,2 dear Mr Tepper, I have read with great interest, and find the advice that you give for the reduction of this land plague very suitable.
Your Abutilon requires critical investigation,3 which will take some time.
(Private) Perhaps you do not even know that I live in my present office rather distant from my large collections, after I was deprived of my garden through nepotism, jealousy and ignorance. This explains why I cannot always immediately study any one plant in complete context. Even if rather responsible, especially rural, official duties were not always present. Just finished with the large commitments for Sir Thomas Elder's Expedition,4 I am now very taken up with extra work, finally bringing about the new Antarctic research after 6 years of arduous effort.5 All this requires not only sacrifice of time, but also of money.
Greetings to your son in the N. W.6 from me. Perhaps he also has heard of new traces of Leichhardt.
Abutilon
