Can you throw some light on this, dear Mr Cheeseman, as I can find no record of such a grass in the large new work on Japan-plants by Franchet and Savatier.1

I should like to have this information for the 8th Edition of the "Select plants" (again enlarged) now passing through the press.2 Perhaps you have other additional data for this work from your long experience.

The grass about which M is seeking information has not been identified, and it is not certain whether M included a specimen or a printed reference with the letter. The work M had consulted is Franchet & Savatier (1875-9).
