From Ferdinand von Mueller to Maxwell Masters   [Sep 1891]

[Pinus halepensis. — A spray was received by Dr. Masters from Baron von Mueller, bearing both male and female flowers on the same shoot; the female flowers being in clusters instead of in pairs and arranged in the same series as the male catkins.]

Pinus halepensis

Letter not found. The text given here is from a report of the meeting of the scientific committee of the Royal Horticultural Society held on 10 November1891, Gardener's chronicle, 21 November 1891, p. 621. It is not certain whether the letter was addressed to Masters personally, or to the Gardeners' chronicle, of which he was editor. The text makes it less likely that it was addressed to the Royal Horticultural Society.
