From Ferdinand von Mueller to Nicholas Holtze   24 Oct 1891

24/10/91

I have spent some time on your Crotalaria 1294, dear Mr Holtze, and it may be a form of C. dissitiflora, Bentham. If so, we never had it so far North-West. But until the ripe pod is also obtained, the exact place of the plant in the system cannot be settled with certainty. Let me trust, that in the same manner you will be soon able to complete the material gradually for naming many plants, sent by your kind father1 and yourself in the course of years, but which for accurate systematizing had to be laid aside, until the material could be completed. Indeed I looked forward to an other set of specimens from you since some time.

Regardfully

your

Ferd. von Mueller.

1319 Terminalia grandiflora, Bentham.

Kindly say, what is the outside color of the fruit. Can you gather a parcel of these curious fruits? Perhaps the plant is near you.

Have the Aborigines special names for the succulent sorts of Terminalia, which they eat?

Crotalaria dissitiflora

Terminalia grandiflora

Maurice Holtze.
