Dear Baron

A long time ago I sent you a specimen which I could not reconcile with any Cupania or Nephelium1 You thought it peculiar and wished for the fruit in order to determine what it is. I have been again where the solitary tree grows and obtained young fruit and the old of last year, which I inclose. A Melichrus from the Richmond2 (side flowering) was in the same position and I sent you the fruit some time since. I hope you received it.

I inclose a specimen from the Richmond producing catkins, for the name of which I would be much obliged.

Yours truly

Robt D Fitzgerald

Cupania

Melichrus

Nephelium

For Nephalium, see R. Fitzgerald to M, 12 November 1890 (in this edition as 90-11-12a). No letter from Fitzgerald suggesting it might a Cupania has been found.

Richmond River, NSW.

Found with a specimen of Alectryon subcinereus (MEL 1537051).
