[Govt Botanist Reqn for 10,000 labels]1
M's requisition would almost certainly have been rejected, given the Government's decision, of which M had been informed a few days earlier (see M to A. McLean, 1 January 1892), that the position of Government Botanist was to be abolished. (The fate of the Government Herbarium was still under discussion; see T. Wilson to M, 15 January 1892.) However, M's position was continued until 31 December 1892 (see T. Wilson to M, 31 March 1892) and further labels printed later in the year after M knew that he had been awarded an Honorary LLD by McGill University (see McGill University to M, 30 April 1892). listing his qualifications as 'Ph. & M.D LL.D' (see for example, the label on a Poa species, MEL 9369).
Letter not found; item is a register entry only, of a requisition dated 4 January 1892.
