From Ferdinand von Mueller to [Nathaniel McKay]   [Mar 1892]

[Baron von Mueller, the kindly and thoughtful old savant that he is, has sent us a further stock of rare seeds for distribution among Mildura settlers. They include the following :—Euchliana Luxuriens1 (Teosinte), Dolichos, Albizzia Saman (the rain-tree of Central America), Dolichos lablab, Lathyrus sativus, Phaseolus pilosus, Festuca Dives.]2

Albizzia Saman

Dolichos lablab

Euchliana Luxuriens

Festuca Dives

Lathyrus sativus

Phaseolus pilosus

Typesetter's error for Euchlaena Luxurians?

The item continued: 'We shall be glad to supply those who call at our office. It is, perhaps, as well to mention here that some of our readers are very thoughtless in asking for seeds. One letter we received last week from Irymple was as follows : "Sir—Be good enough to send me by return past some seeds of each variety of the vitis sent you by the Government Botanist." Seeing that we distribute some thousands of packets of seeds, the postage, packing and labelling become a serious item. If a stamp is enclosed, also a few envelopes with the names of the desired varieties written on them, it is much more convenient.'
