To the Linnean Society of London1    18 March 1892

We the Undersigned beg to recommend

Robert Hedger-Wallace Esqr.,

Lecturer in the Department of Agriculture, Melbourne, for the Fellowship of the Linnean Society of London, which distinction he is well deserving on account of his studies of rural plants, carried on for a considerable period.

Ferd. von Mueller, F.L.S.

William Woolls F.L.S.

J. H. Maiden, F.L.S.2

18/3/923

M autograph text and signature; other supporters' individual signatures.

Annotated front: Read 5 May 1892 Ballot 2 June 1892.

In pencil across bottom of sheet: Notice of this election fell into the hands of Mueller and was not forwarded by him to Hedger in S Africa. Harting wrote that Adm fee and current years subscription would be accepted. See Diary 9/7/98.

There is no Hedger-Wallace listed in the Linnean Society records. However, ‘Wallace, Robert Hedger’ is listed in the election book for 2 June 1892 but does not appear in the address list or other relevant files, so presumably he did not join. Unusually, there is no annotation on the back of the nomination letter.
