GOVT. BOTANIST'S OFFICE.
GEORGETOWN, DEMERARA.1
28th June 1892
Dear Sir Ferdinand,
I have the pleasure to acknowledge the receipt of the engraving of your likeness which you were so good as to send me,2 and which I have had framed and placed in my gallery beside that of your fellow countryman and colonist Richard Schomburgk.
Kindly accept my best thanks for it.
There is a small matter in which I have been wonding3 whether you could help me. It is this. On the 19th Oct. 1888 I received from you a few palm seeds marked "Livistona. Central Australia". Three of the seeds germinated, one of which subsequently failed. The other two are plants about four feet high over the leaves, and as much in diameter. The leaves are deeply divided, the divisions not drooping at the ends, petioles armed and all parts of a dark bronze colour. Can you tell me the name? It is quite different from L. australis, which is greener in colour, the ends of the segments drooping much.
I am
very faithfully yr
G. S. Jenman
