Sehr geehrter Herr Baron!

J. P. Eckert.

Highly esteemed Baron,

With the departing mail I am sending you a plant for your kind identification. At first I believed it to be Hypoxis glabella, however, this is not the flowering time for them, and in addition the plant is always found in the same state as the specimen sent. As far as I have observed to date, I find that the fructification of the flower always occurs in the soil, and that afterwards the seed capsule curves out of the soil, and usually the stem of the normal form then takes on a horizontal position. The robust specimens I have collected under Xertotes effusa.2 I have found the plant already early in May of this year; now it is most frequent.

I cannot get Geococcus pussilus 3 to germinate. The seed must be more than 8 years old. Perhaps I will find the plant near Lake Albacutya4 in September.

We have splendid, fruitful weather.

With cordial greetings,

Your

J. P. Eckert.
