From Joseph Maiden to Ferdinand von Mueller   6 Sep 1892

TECHNOLOGICAL MUSEUM, SYDNEY.

Memo. from the CURATOR to Baron Ferd: von Mueller K.C.M.G., F.R.S. &c

Melbourne

6th Sept: 1892

Dear Baron Mueller,

I send by this post fruits, leaves & (in a tin) a few fresh flowers of a Hakea from the Newcastle district. I am trying to get better specimens.

I believe the Hakea to be new, for I cannot place it under any of the Hakeas in the Flora.1 You were good enough, some time ago, to say you would couple my name with yours in describing new species I may send you. I should like the new species (if you confirm my diagnosis), to be named after my assistant Mr R. T. Baker.2 I wish to write to you re Meston3 & other matters, but I have simply not had time. I am busy beyond measure, & now I am occupied in designing fittings for the new Museum.

Yours truly,

J. H. Maiden.
