From Ferdinand von Mueller to Otto Tepper   2 Feb 1893

2/2/93.

2/2/93.

It must be very uplifting for you, dear Mr Tepper, that you have such a talented son,1 who also already has instilled such a great confidence amongst his local citizens.

I will always readily name plants for you and him, as far as it can occur from mere examining.

Even if such plants as require critical comparison can only later be attended to in context, the material remains here safely stored and will sooner or later find its settlement.

The Salicornia that you send seems to me to be only a low state of S. arbuscula, either still juvenile or remained dwarf-like through other circumstances.

I should not like to trouble your son on account of plant collecting in general, but he could help enlarge our knowledge if he would have all kinds of aquatic plants pulled out from lagoons with rakes with the help of children. Quite small annual spring plants might also still produce something new.

With best greetings

Ferd. von Mueller.

Wilsonia humilis was one of the first plants that greeted me in 18472 and I saw what it was immediately.

Salicornia arbuscula

Wilsonia humilis

J. W. O. Tepper.

M arrived in Australia on 15 December 1847. A specimen of Wilsonia humilis, MEL 2273622, is dated to December 1847, without the day being specified.
