20 March 1893.
The article continues with a long quotation from an unknown author, with details from B91.09.01 including a quotation concerning the plant's growth in Fiji. A very similar 'exchange' is reported in M to the Portland Guardian, 20 March 1893 (in this edition as 93-03-20b).
At least two packages of the rootstock had been sent to the Port Fairy botanic gardens; see M to J. Prior, 13 March 1893 and notes thereto.
Letter not found. The text given here is from 'Coapim grass', Port Fairy gazette, 24 March 1893, p. [2]. The letter is dated to 18 March as the most likely date that it would have been sent; this date is consistent with other packages sent to rural newspapers, see M to Bairnsdale advertiser and Tambo and Omeo chronicle, 16 March 1893 and notes thereto.
