From Ferdinand von Mueller to Annie Walker   22 Mar 1893

22/3/93

From a telegram sent at the day of his funeral published in the Sydney-Morning-Herald,1 dear Miss Walker, you may have noticed, how deeply I feel the loss of "my dearest science-friend in Australia". This morning I received from Miss Georgina King a Cassinia, which our lamented friend had named only 3 or 4 days before his burial. Kindly let me know, whether I shall have the honor of your and the Misses Cole's visit on Friday-morning or in the afternoon,2 so that I may [...]3 as my office-work at that day in such a manner to be free for attending on you, the inspection of your pictures requiring carefulness.

With regardful remembrance of you and best greeting to Mrs Cole and her kind daughters4

Ferd. von Mueller.

Cassinia

See M to J. Maiden, 15 March 1893, lamenting the death of W. Woolls. Maiden read out M's telegram at Woolls's funeral.

Annie Walker was evidently visiting Melbourne, presumably with the Ward-Coles at ‘St Ninians’, Brighton.
