From Ferdinand von Mueller to James Lidgett   [Sep 1893]

[One of the most useful and interesting books published by the Victorian Department of Agriculture is that on "Thistles and Allied Plants",1 by our useful patron Baron Sir F. von Mueller, Government Botanist, a copy of which he has lately very kindly forwarded to me.]2

B93.07.05.

The extract is followed by a general description of the work and comments on some of the thistles included in it, concluding 'many thanks are due to Baron von Mueller for his pains in so concisely elaborating his remarks on this interesting subject, and as the book is issued gratis, anybody desirous can obtain a copy by communicating with the Secretary of Agriculture, Melbourne'.

Letter not found. The text given here is from 'science jottings', Kyneton observer, 28 September 1893 p. [3]. Based on 'lately … forwarded' it is dated to September 1893 as the most probable date.
