From James Thomson to Ferdinand von Mueller   18 Sep 1893

18. 9. [189]31

Dear Baron von Mueller,

Permit me to thank you very cordially for your friendly and elegantly worded letter of the 13th. inst.2 I always [re]ceive great encouragement from your despatches & they stimulate me in my labours in the cause of science.

I should esteem it a very high honour to be associated with the Geographic Society of Halle and further thank you for your offer to nominate me for membership. I shall have great pleasure in presenting a copy of my "British New Guinea"3 to Professor Kirchhoff4 as well as any photographs that may be of use to that renowned scientist. Kindly instruct me as to how I am to sent them. Shall I send them through you or direct to the Professor? I appreciate most highly your remarks regarding my labours.

With deep respect,

I am,

dear Baron von Mueller

faithfully yours

J. P. Thomson
