From Ferdinand von Mueller to the Winchelsea Shire Council   [Nov 1893]

[Packets of beetroot seed, of varieties suitable for sugar-making, were received from Baron von Mueller for experiment in the district.—The seeds were left with the secretary for distribution amongst growers, and the Council resolved to send a letter of thanks to the Baron.1]

Letter of thanks not found. The report of the meeting in Geelong advertiser, 2 December 1893, p. [4] included the additional comment that 'the distribution of the seeds was left in the hands of the secretary'.

Letter not found. The text given here is from 'Sugar beet' in a report of the meeting of the Winchelsea Shire Council held on 1 December 1893 (Colac herald, 5 December 1893, p. 4). The seeds were probably sent around the middle of the month, when seed was distributed to other councils; see M to T. Easton, 16 November 1893 (in this edition as 93-11-16b) and notes thereto.
